Ponyo becomes 'Puppyo' as we introduce our new line of Ultimate Dog Coats. These high quality dog coats are made from the same super tough, waterproof 1200D ripstop fabric as our turnout rugs, so you can be sure of the quality and durability. They feature high vis strips for safety, a shape and fit that will keep your pup comfortable on walks, a small zip on withers to allow you to attach the lead to a harness and a thin 100g filling to keep your pup warm during cold weather, whilst also remaining breathable.
Please note: If you are ordering from outside of the UK, your country may impose an import tax. It is the customer's responsibility to be aware of this and bear any costs.
1. How do I measure my horse for a rug?
In the UK, we measure our rugs in feet, and measure the Body Length - from the centre of the horse's chest, round their side and go right up to where the rug should end, at the farthest back point of the hind quarters or parallel with the tail. It is especially important with turnout rugs that the rugs come sufficiently far back, so as to keep the whole horse dry and clean.
2. What if my horse sits between two rug sizes?
Horse rugs go up in 3 inch intervals so you may find that your horse doesn't measure as an exact rug size, for example, 6'2 (the closest rug sizes are 6'0 or 6'3). You may also find that your horse can fit two different sizes depending on which rug brand they're wearing.
Our turnout rugs are true to size but come up on the more generous side, and are very adjustable at the chest. Therefore if your horse is always one size no matter the brand, you should choose that size in Ponyo. If your horse is between two sizes depending on brand, we recommend going for the smaller of the two sizes. However, this is just a suggestion and the size you go for is entirely up to you!
Stable and fleece rugs: these are also true to size but a slightly snugger fit. If your horse is between sizes or if they are chunky or wide-chested, we recommend choosing the larger of the two sizes you're considering.
3. What's the best way to try the rug on?
Before trying on, give your horse a thorough grooming to get rid of as much dust and dirt as possible. If it's a season change, make sure to also get off as much loose hair as you can. Always try the rug on before you ride to avoid getting any sweat on the rug. When you're ready to try it on, with all labels still attached, put the rug body carefully on your horse and do up the chest fastening first, followed by the surcingles and leg straps. These may all need adjusting. You can then attach the neck piece to the rug to see how that fits. See if it fits whilst he's standing still, take him for a walk to see how he moves in it, and then allow him to put his head down to graze to make sure it's not too tight anywhere. You want to check for freedom of movement and that it isn't too tight or too loose anywhere. This all ensures the perfect fit! You can also put a thin rug on underneath to ensure the Ponyo rug stays clean.
4. What happens if the rug doesn't fit?
Despite your best efforts measuring your horse, there are the odd occasions when the rug won't fit perfectly and you realise you'll need a size larger or smaller. When trying the rug on make sure you follow the instructions above. This is very important, because we do of course offer exchanges for other sizes or full refunds, but we can only accept rugs back if they are in perfect condition, both clean and fully intact. If it doesn't fit, make sure it's clean and all parts of the rug are sent back with all of the original packaging and labels. For more detailed information, please review our Returns Policy
PLEASE NOTE: if the rug does not fit, please do not continue using it. Ponyo cannot be held responsible if you use an ill-fitted rug and it causes rubbing or discomfort as a result. It is the owner's responsibility to check the fit before regular use. We will not offer refunds or exchanges on used rugs.
5. What's the best way to try on travel boots?
As with the rugs, please brush your horse's legs thoroughly and make sure they're clean and dry before trying the boots on. If you find the boots don't fit, but they become dirty during the try on process, we will be unable to offer a refund or exchange.
6. What are the turnout rugs, travel boots and bum bags made of?
They're made of high quality 1200D ripstop outer shell with a polyester lining. The fabric has been printed and waterproofed for Ponyo and has undergone rigorous standardised industry testing for waterproofing and breathability. We've also sourced durable clips and fastenings to match the quality of the fabric.
7. What's the size range?
For rugs, we are currently offering all sizes between 3'0 and 7'3. For tack products, we offer Mini up to Full.
8. Do Ponyo rugs rub?
We've designed the rugs to reduce rub as much as possible. They have high neck and chest lines to avoid the rugs slipping back and pulling. The lining is also a silky fabric which will reduce rubbing on the mane and other sensitive areas. However, as it is the owner's responsibility to try the rug on and ensure it fits well before regular use commences.
9. I live outside of the UK, can I order?
Yes! We offer shipping worldwide so everyone can have a dreamy Ponyo rug in their horse's wardrobe. Sadly we cannot ship to Russia because the couriers are not allowed to deliver to Russian residential addresses.
10. I ordered my rug in a pre-order, when will I receive it?
Estimated delivery times for each shipment will be stated on the product pre-order pages. However, with restock shipments it is very difficult to pinpoint an exact delivery date as there are many things outside of our control which can affect the arrival times (customs clearance and so on). Ponyo can't be held responsible for any uncontrollable delays in the shipments but we will always aim to keep you up to date if there are any delays we are aware of. As soon as we've received the restock, the order will be sent out on the chosen delivery method the customer paid for upon checkout.
11. I'm pre-ordering a rug, so why am I asked to pay for Next Working Day Delivery?
This is because that is the delivery method we will use after we receive the restock, and we will have to pay this amount to the courier.
12. What happens if I order both in-stock items and pre-order items, or pre-order items with different arrival timelines, at the same time in one cart?
The default is for us to hold the in-stock item or earliest arriving item, until the final pre-order item has arrived and then send the complete order together on the delivery service you chose at checkout. If you would prefer your in-stock item or earliest arriving items to be sent ASAP and for the pre-order item to follow separately after it arrives, please just let us know and we’d be happy to arrange this. Please note: this will incur a second delivery fee as there will be two separate deliveries.
13. Response times
We aim to get back to customer enquiries within 24 working hours where possible. Please be understanding of delays during busy times such as sales and pre-order stock arrivals.
